Trust & Safety

ClearByDate is built around in-person pickup, so trust matters. Here's how we keep listings honest, protect your privacy, and help you transact safely.

Listings you can trust

  • Live-captured media. Photos and videos are captured in-app rather than uploaded from a library, and we record capture time, camera details, and approximate location with each one. We flag media that looks like it came from a virtual camera, and we reject exact-duplicate files — so what you see is a real, recent photo of the actual item.
  • Condition videos for electronics. Anything marked as an electronic item must include a short video showing it powering on and working. You can't verify that a device works from photos alone, so we require the clip.
  • Falling-price auctions. Prices drop transparently toward a floor as the clear-by deadline approaches. There are no hidden reserves beyond the floor the seller sets.

Your privacy is protected

A seller's exact address is never public. Browse and item pages show only an approximate area — the map marker is offset by roughly 150 metres and we show a neighbourhood label, not a street address. The precise location is shared only after a buyer commits via Buy Now or wins a standing bid. See our Privacy Policy for the full picture.

The platform fee keeps everyone honest

When you buy or win, ClearByDate charges a non-refundable platform fee to the card on file. It's a small commitment signal that proves you're a real, motivated buyer who intends to follow through — which protects sellers from no-shows and keeps the marketplace serious. The fee is refunded if the seller can't be reached, won't propose a workable pickup time, no-shows, or the item is materially different from its listing. Full details are in the Terms of Service.

Meeting safely for pickup

  • Arrange pickup and confirm timing through ClearByDate, not off-platform.
  • When you can, meet in a well-lit, public place during daylight; many police stations offer designated exchange zones.
  • Bring a friend, and tell someone where you're going.
  • Inspect the item before paying the balance. Pay the seller directly only once you're satisfied it matches the listing.
  • Keep communication and payment records in case you need to open a dispute.

Prohibited items & conduct

Don't list anything illegal, recalled, stolen, counterfeit, hazardous, or that you don't have the right to sell. Harassment, fraud, off-platform payment schemes designed to dodge the platform fee, and attempts to manipulate listings or bids are not allowed and can result in removal of listings or your account.

Reporting a problem

If a listing looks fraudulent, an item isn't as described, or someone behaves badly, contact us at support@clearby.app. Our team reviews reports, can remove listings or accounts, and handles fee disputes. Both parties are expected to cooperate in good faith; we aim to resolve disputes within seven days.
